We have members who lived in Germany over 30 years ago and have told us residents were responsible then for keeping the area outside their homes free of litter and snow. The dustbins were small metal versions of our plastic wheelie bins, which were lifted mechanically onto trucks as ours are today. Also, they believe it was once a month, when Mullsack day meant large articles, e.g., pieces of furniture etc., could be placed outside and would be collected. Whether this was paid for or not, they do not know. For those who still wonder what the point of twinning is, this is one of the reasons. We keep in touch with our friends abroad who are only too happy to help out when necessary and vice versa.
