Champion jump jockey Richard Johnson again showed Fontwell punters why he's No1 with a treble at the track's Ladies' Evening.

He won three of the first four races on a good night for favourites - and for horses tipped on this website on the morning of racing.

No fewer than SIX of our seven tips won - our best-ever performance in our many years of tipping for Fontwell and Goodwood - and although five of the six began their races as the market leader, betting on each one our of our seven picks to win would still have sent you home with just over £10 for every £5 staked.

Johnson began as he meant to go on, guiding Jim Best’s 6/4 favourite Red Orator to the Closewood Air Conditioning Handicap Hurdle (see video above) and followed up an hour later with victory on Satellite, 5/6 favourite for Tim Vaughan, in the Shogun Business Centres Novices’ Hurdle.

Johnson, crowned champion jump rider at the end of the 15-16 season after many years as runner-up to Tony McCoy, showed he was in the mood to retain his crown when he rounded off the treble on Pied Du Roi in the First4Carz Haslemere Land Rover Specialist Novices’ Handicap.

Remarkably it wasn’t Johnson’s best-ever showing at this fixture - he actually rode a four-timer at the track’s Ladies’ Evening five years ago to the day.

Those three winners were all tipped on our website - as were Excellent Team, 11/10 fav winner of the Shogun Business Centres At Fareham Handicap Hurdle for Harry and Dan Skelton; Royal Battalion, who came in at 5/2 in the Yeomans Honda Handicap Hurdle for Gary and Jamie Moore, and Trevor Whelan and Neil King’s Deise Diamond, 4/5 fav winner of the Closewood Mechanical & Electrical Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.
