THE SPEED limit is set to be cut on a busy road.
Campaigners in Offham are celebrating the news that drivers will be ordered to reduce their speeds from 40mph to 30 mph on the A275 Offham Road.

East Sussex County Council has agreed to cut the speed following a campaign by villagers with parish councillor Kevin Froude and county councillor Rosalyn St Pierre, and supported by MP Norman Baker.

Cllr St Pierre said: 'This is great news for Offham.

'Walkers accessing the South Downs, and local residents have been hampered by the speed of traffic.

'This reduced limit will allow them to cross the road more quickly and safely.

'I will now push for a cycle lane to be introduced on this stretch of road, as the bends and speed make it difficult for cyclists to be seen.'

MP Norman Baker added: 'It's been agreed and we are now waiting for the signs to be changed.

'Residents have been unhappy about the speeds in the area ever since I became an MP and a few years ago I helped to get it from 60 to 40mph.

'I think the mindset has changed for driving speeds near residential areas but I think 30mph is the right speed in this case because this is a very narrow road and the pavement is also not very wide.'
