A DIARRHOEA and vomiting outbreak at the DGH has caused a ward to be closed to new admissions.
Cuckmere Ward was shut to incoming patients after 17 people developed symptoms.

East Sussex Hospitals Trust, which runs the hospital, could not confirm if this was a case of 'winter vomiting virus' Norovirus, which causes diarrhoea and sickness and spreads rapidly.

Tests are to be done to find the cause and the ward will remain shut until all symptoms of the bug have cleared.

A trust spokesman said, "To stop the virus spreading, anyone experiencing any symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting is asked to refrain from visiting the hospital until they are free of symptoms for at least two days.

"Those who must visit should ensure they wash their hands before entering the hospital and use the alcohol gel dispensers situated at the ward entrance and bedside.

"It is also recommended hands are washed when leaving the ward."
