A man has died in hospital after being stabbed in Chichester on Friday evening (March 11).

Ambulance paramedics were called to Alexandra Road just after 9pm where an 18-year-old local man had been found in the road with serious stab wounds.

He was initially taken to St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester and then transferred to Southampton General Hospital where he sadly died around 1am on Saturday morning (March 12).

Shortly after 4am, a 20-year-old man from Chichester was arrested at an address in the city on suspicion of murder.

He remained in custody on Saturday afternoon.

Detective Superintendent Jason Tingley, who is leading the investigation into the man’s death, said: “Members of the victim’s family were at the hospital when he sadly died, but his identity is not being released at this time.

“We are treating this as a murder investigation and believe that those involved are known to each other.
