The gold ring is ‘awash with intrigue’ as it is inscribed with a mystery message.

A metal detectorist discovered an ancient posy ring believed to have been hidden by the Sheriff of Nottingham centuries ago. Andy Taylor dug up the 460-year-old ring on farmland in Rushcliffe, Nottingham - around 27 miles from Sherwood Forest - in July 2020.

The circa 1560 posy ring, a popular 16th century love token, weighs 15g and bears the mystery message ‘I Meane Ryght’. Experts reckon it could be part of a hoard of treasure hidden by the Sheriff of Nottingham or a member of his family.
