Rangers Manager Dave Shearing wasn’t surprised with the score line and could still take positives out of the heavy defeat, he said: “It was disappointing but in a way it wasn’t unexpected if I’m honest. I more than likely woke up in the morning thinking it could be 11 but it was seven. I was disappointed but Horsham YMCA were very good.
“They are three years more advanced than us. We had nine debutants playing – four under 18s, and we only let two goals in the second half. Being a realist, I thought that YM should have won.

Shearing admitted there are still players coming into the squad, he added: “It was their first game, and several players only came in on Thursday, so they haven’t been training and don’t know each other.
“It can only get better, they didn’t get downhearted, they didn’t stop trying, they didn’t let themselves down, it was just the other team was better on the day.”
With the season now back in full swing, Rangers have their first home game on Wednesday evening against Newhaven, who themselves put six past Worthing United on their first outing Saturday. Shearing said: “It’s going to be tough. We’ve got at least one other debutant at least for Wednesday. We will more than likely shuffle the pack. We still don’t know who our best team is.”
