Who are your top Sussex sport stars of 2016?

Do you know an athlete that has excelled in the past year, a team that has come together to achieve their goals or a volunteer that has gone above and beyond for their community? Make sure you nominate them for this year's Sussex Sports Awards.

Active Sussex has officially launched nominations for the Sussex Sport Awards 2016, taking place on Friday, November 25, at The Grand Hotel, Brighton.

Sadie Mason, Active Sussex CEO, said: “The Sussex Sports Awards 2016 is the high profile event in the Sussex sporting calendar, and we very much look forward to recognising and rewarding those people that make sport happen in the county.”

Now in its 14th anniversary year, the black tie event will celebrate the achievements of Sussex sports stars, and welcome special guest, Jo Pavey and host Danny Pike.

Pavey is fresh back from competing at the Rio Olympic Games. She is a five-time Olympian, having represented Great Britain in every Olympic Games from 2000 to 2016. She is the only British runner and track event athlete to have competed in five games.

She is also the 2012 European Championship silver medallist in the 10,000m and a two-time 5000m medalist at the Commonwealth Games, winning silver in Melbourne 2006 and bronze in Glasgow 2014.

Pavey won the 10,000m gold medal at the 2014 European Championships in Zürich, ten months after giving birth to her second child, to become the oldest female European champion in history at the age of 40 years and 325 days.
